Alice at the V&A.

Janette and I originally had tickets for this exhibition in March but we had to wait a further two months before we could step down the rabbit hole into the Sainsbury Gallery, follow the White Rabbit and experience this most curious of worlds imagined by Lewis Carroll and created by John Tenniel.

I’d used Tenniel’s images to create a design as part of my exhibit for the next EAST exhibition TRANSFORMATION but the V&A exhibition was itself out of this world. Therefore, I’m only going to feature a tiny part here – the appearance of the Cheshire Cat.

Out of the darkness appears a tree,

then a grin,

a mouth full of terrifying teeth

with the hint of ears.

Well! I’ve often seen a cat without a grin! thought Alice, but a grin without a cat! It’s the most curious thing I ever saw in my life!
